Nose Candy

“Tonight I’m. Or losing my virginity or my liquor license over any of you bitches so pack up”

“Talent comes everywhere but having something to say and a way to say it so that people listen to it that’s a whole other bag. Unless you get out and you try to do it, you’ll never know. That’s just the truth. And there’s one reason we’re supposed to be here is to say something so people want to hear. So you got to grab it.”

“Music is essentially 12 notes between any octave, 12 notes and the octave repeat. It’s the same story told over and over forever. All any artist can offer this world is how they see those 12 notes.”

“I could get used to this you need to date more rock stars”

“I think you have it all, the question is where do you want to be?”

“I don’t want to lose the piece of me that is talented”

“If you don’t dig deep into you fucking soul you won’t have any legs. Just telling you that. If you don’t tell the truth out there your fucked. All you got is you and what you want to say to people. There listening right now and their not going to be listening forever trust me.”

“The last thing I do is lie to him”

The Big Finish

I personally don’t mind the nose. Bradley Cooper went for it all in his directorial debut and didn’t just try to stick the landing, he successfully executed a triple axel. His performance along with his direction and singing is absolutely masterful. Some guys are just blessed with all the talent. Lady Gaga is incredible here in a very rare occasion in movies where the talents acting is parallel to their singing. Cooper and Gaga’s convincing chemistry jumps right through the screen. Detailing with very intimate conversations, the first act did an excellent job of building up their relationship. The writing is extremely impressive and well-done in delivery. It never felt like the actors are reciting a script as opposed to having naturally flowing dialogue. Even though the makers did a solid job of modernizing such as using Alec Baldwin at SNL or referencing Jimmy Iovine and Interscope etc. There is still an old school vibe to this picture perfectly blending the old and the new. To go along with an amazing story there is also an array of moving musical numbers. In one of the years absolute best, A Star is Born delivers a beautiful updated account on a lovable classic.
